  • L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Color Presso

I'll give them points in creative packaging but I couldn't move past the point of the dual applicator looking like a pig's snout. All I could think of was the "lipstick on a pig" controversy of the 2008 elections and they lost me there. The colors are pretty, the gloss factor good and the $13 price tag not bad for getting essentially two products in one. But I think the applicator is too wide for most lips and the snout factor really throws me off.

Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color

    Pretty pink pucker!

If you're in search of the perfect pink lip color, Max Factor Vivid Impact Lipcolor in Pin-Up Pink is a winner in my beauty book. With a touch of shea butter and blast of pretty pink, this lipstick is so pucker-worthy! Goes on creamy and smooth but because my lips are perpetually dry, it needs a touch of gloss to seal the deal.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper

Delivers on its promise to fatten lashes

The touted fat-injecting formula works in cooperation with a Double-D sized brush to plump and coat each lash perfectly. It goes on smoothly with no clumps and I haven't had a single issue with end-of-the-day black shadow, smudging or flaking. The super fabulous part is that at $11 bucks, the mascara is half the price of the beauty boutique and department store brands.

  • Olay Pro-X Wrinkle Smoothing Cream

    Olay Pro-X Wrinkle Smoothing Cream

Three steps to Better Skin: I liked!

What a difference 28 days makes. I'm always hesitant to try new skincare potions because I like to stick with what works. But Olay sucked me in with their new professional line and for once, I'm glad I'm a sucker. I went with the Olay Professional Pro-X Anti-Aging Starter Protocol, a three-piece kit that includes the Eye Restoration Complex, Age Repair Lotion SPF 30 and the much-hyped Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. I say "much-hyped" because you can't pick up a magazine lately without reading about its wondrous results or seeing an ad. The Wrinkle Smoothing Cream is a nighttime full-face moisturizer that contains two types of peptides and Niacinamide (a derivative of vitamin B3), which work together to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reverse the appearance of past skin damage. The advantage of this formulation over retinol night creams is that it's less irritating to the skin. So with the three-step system, I used my regular cleansing regimen (gentle cleanser in morning and salicylic cleanser in the evening) and used the products as directed -- Age Repair Lotion in the morning, Wrinkle Smoothing Cream at night and Eye Restoration Complex twice daily. The results have been fantastic. Even my aesthetician commented on how great my skin looked a few weeks ago when I went in for a brow wax. I think that by increasing cell turnover, the night cream was also instrumental in keeping breakouts at bay but that's just my non-professional opinion and the product makes no anti-blemish claims. Overall, I'm ecstatic with the results and like the economical price of the starter kit. The Olay Professional Pro-X Anti-Aging Starter Protocol kit is $68 and available at most drugstores and mass market stores. From now until May 5, 2009, get a $25 rebate with the purchase of $50 worth of Pro-X products at the Olay Professional website.

  • Beautyblender Sponge

    Beautyblender Sponge

    Makeup Must

I discovered this little wonder at a local beauty boutique in my neighborhood. I was drawn to it because of its brilliant hot pink color and it has since become part of my makeup starting lineup. I previously used those wedge-shaped cosmetic sponges to blend my foundation, which work fine. But once you try the beautyblender, you'll never go back. You simply douse it under the sink with water, give it a squeeze and then I roll it in a clean towel to remove excess water. I apply foundation with my fingers and then blend away with my little pink egg-shaped wonder. It's as soft as can be and is latex and odor free. You can purchase it as a set with a sponge cleanser but I rinse it with hand soap after use and let it dry. Remember to always let your beauty brushes and tools dry completely before storing them.

  • Crabtree & Evelyn Aromatherapy Distillations Relaxing - Gentle Cream Body Wash

Kudos to Crabtree & Evelyn for coming out with this soothing aromatherapy line! I've always associated C&E with a place with products laced with scents that my grandma would like. Not that my grandma doesn't have good taste mind you but it's very different from mine! This Relaxing Gentle Cream Body Wash lives up to its name by unleashing a lavender-laced scent that with one whiff, makes you forget about your impending deadline or whatever stress is nipping at your Psyche. The creamy gentle formula delivers a truly luxurious bathing experience and it makes a good shaving base. It's a little pricey at $19.50 per tube but the formulation is free of parabens, mineral oils and fake fragrances and colors. I'm a fan.

  • Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser

This is the final step in my new Liz Earle night-time regimen and I'm lovin' it ... so is my skin! This is relatively light-weight moisturizer. It penetrates skin quickly and leaves no greasy sheen and has very little aroma. It's not my favorite in the Liz Earle line-up but because I use it over top of the rich Superskin Concentrate, it's perfect for the final sealing in of all the high quality ingredients found in the line.

  • Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate

As a self-anointed beauty know-it-all, I often get the question of when to splurge and when to save your money. Here's one product I would definitely put in the splurge category. The 1fl. oz. size will set you back $70 bucks but one heavenly little drop goes a long way. The intense aroma gives you an idea of the rich essential oils and vitamins packed in this golden nectar. I use it once daily at night and it gives my skin a serious dose of overnight hydration. I could swear too that the scent makes me sleep better. Love it.

  • Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic

I'm not normally a toner kinda gal but you don't want to scrimp out on this step in the Liz Earle skincare system. Instead of parching skin of natural oils like some toners, this one nourishes with vitamins and organic botanicals. Plus, the scent is refreshing and you can pick up undertones like rose and geranium. I'm a Liz Earle addict!

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

    A Kinder, Gentler Skincare System!

I've just started using the Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser as part of my nightly routine and love, love, love it. The creamy, eucalyptus-scented cleanser whisks away makeup and the muslin cloth slough away dead skin like nobody's business. I follow that with a swipe of Instant Boost Skin Tonic, a few precious drops of Superskin Concentrate and a final dab of New Superskin Moisturiser. These British babes (the two creators) have totally won me over with this skincare system. The packaging is lovely too!
