    L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray

    Intolerable "Fragrance"

I had high hopes for this hairspray based on all the hype about it in the beauty magazines, but it really failed to meet those. It didn't hold my hair any better than my usual (half the price) John frieda hairspray, and I felt like it kind of weighed it down. So based on performance alone, this one wasn't a hit with me. However, the biggest problem with this product is the smell! Even if it had made my hair look spectacular, I wouldn't have bought it again. I could smell that odd chemical fragrance all day long. It's really bad! I don't reccommend this to anyone.

Sally Hansen No Chip Acrylic Top Coat

    Destroys Your Manicure

This polish looks nice at first - it dries hard and is super-shiny. Within a day, upon close examination, it looks like your polish is cracked all over. Like every time your nail flexed a tiny bit, the polish cracked. And then it starts coming off, in big chunks, WAY sooner than with even some of the most disappointing ineffective topcoats I've used. This is an awful, awul product. Do not buy!

  • John Frieda Luxurious Volume Extra Hold Hairspray

I usually use Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play hairspray, but decided to try this as a cheaper option. I've found it to be really effective. It holds well (not as stiff as the BSH) and truly does help my hair appear more voluminous. I have yet to try it out in humid weather, as it's winter here in Michigan, but I have high hopes for it. The price is a great deal for the performance this spray has shown so far. I'm a fan!

  • John Frieda Root Awakening Health Boosting Detangling Spray

I have been pleasantly surprised by this, after reading the lackluster reviews here. My hair is pretty severely damaged, with a lot of short broken hairs from daily teasing and heat-styling, and years of highlights. This spray definitely smooths my hair and gives those broken bits less of a "flyaway" appearance. It seems to make my hair shinier as well, and it doesn't weigh it down (my hair is FINE, too). I also like the minty smell of it. I can say one thing: The instructions to only use 3-5 pumps at the roots are wrong. Putting a targeted product in only three spots on your head won't do anything, unless you have very short hair or a very tiny head. I use a good 10-12 spritzes of thye stuff. I recommend this to those with visible damage - I've already bought a couple more bottles on ae to stock up!

  • Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Solutions Root Lifter Spray Gel

I'm not usually thrilled with Pantene's styling products, but the ad campaign for the Fine Hair Solutions line was too convincing. Alas, I don't feel this product really delivered. It didn't thicken my roots the way good volumizers do, and it didn't provide much lift. Also, it didn't have enough hold to last even half the day. It's well-priced, and it smells good, but it's just not effective enough for me to ever buy it again.

  • John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray

I'm really impressed with how well this worked for me. I have naturally brown hair that I highlight heavily. My roots come in fast between dye-jobs, and are REALLY dark, so I sometimes use Sun-In on them to lessen the contrast and allow me a little more time. That just makes my roots a bit more golden and less extremely noticeable. THIS product, however, practically worked magic in only two applications! My roots are amazingly well-blended. Yes - my overall color appears a little blonder, but that's fine. I hope they continue to make this, because I'll keep buying it.

  • Maybelline New York Color Sensational Pearls Lipcolor

I always like to layer light, shimmery shades over darker lipstick for a dimension-adding effect, so I was excited when Maybelline started advertising these new shades. I already liked their Color Sensational lipsticks, and these are just as good. They're creamy and comfortable. The colors are gorgeous, and the price is fantastic. I'm buying more of these!

  • Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstain

I don't have much experience with lipstains, but I hated this product. The first reason is that the color is NOTHING like what it looks like on the tube - it's much darker. I bought what looked like a peachy-nude shade and ended up with dark coral lips. The color doesn't go on evenly, either. The felt-tip doesn't stay saturated, and you have to shake it to get the color to come out. It really is kind of a pain to apply, and then it leaves your lips feeling dry after a few minutes. Give me a nice creamy lipstick I can effortlessly swipe on over this rough, dry marker any day.

  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

I received this mascara as part of a gift. Normally, I only use waterproof formulas, so I wasn't sure about it, but I tried it anyway. I love it! It really does make my lashes look REALLY looooong. It does a good job of separating and thickening, too. And to my surprise, I've had no issues with smudging whatsoever. The only drawback is the price, as I'd never pay this much for a mascara for myself (the unneccessarily fancy tube is probably half the reason for the cost, and that's too bad).

  • John Frieda Luxurious Volume Blow-Dry Lotion Root Booster

I had higher hopes for this product than what it actually delivered. I love the Luxurious Volume mousse, but this root booster didn't do much of anything. It doesn't have enough hold. My hair wouldn't stay lifted more than a few minutes after blow-drying. I also didn't get the thicker feeling that most good root products give. This stuff isn't that cheap for a drugstore product, either. I won't buy it again.
