I have an oily skin and i used to wear foundation for my type of skin. I heard that there are tinted moisturizers for oily skin as well so i don't know which one would be better. I don't really have a lot of blemishes, just little red spots[sometimes].
What do you prefer and why??

It really depends on the complexion you have and what kind of coverage you want, but also how much time you want to spend on application. You say you have a decent complexion, so why bother spending more time to get a full coverage you don't really need?
Tinted moisturizers typically give you a sheer coverage; good enough to even out the complexion, but it doesn't do much to cover any blemishes. It's a great way to get a natural look without spending a lot of time. However, depending on your skin, some people often need to supplement their tinted moisturizer with an additional moisturizer because the hydration is not adequate. If you say that your skin is oily, then I wouldn't worry about supplementing moisture.
Foundation can be used on any skin types. There are many different kinds of coverage such as sheer, medium and full and are often buildable in coverage. They also come in several finishes such as matte, natural, satin, etc. They often do take a little more time to apply, but they generally wear longer than a tinted moisturizer.
There are many foundations and tinted moisturizers that are oil-free and many of them can help control oil. One thing that really helps fight shine is to finish off your complexion with translucent powder.
I would consider trying a Beauty Balm (BB cream). Many brands have released Beauty Balms into their collection within the last year, so try to find one that's right for you. One that I've been enjoying lately is the new BB cream from Smashbox. It hydrates, primes, protects with spf, controls oil, and smoothes the complexion. BB creams basically do much more than a tinted moisturizer. :-)

I would agree with Volta there, a Beauty Balm is something I recently invested in as I don't like wearing foundation everyday to work but I found tinted moisturizers just weren't enough for me. I invested in some Garnier BB as my first tube of BB and it is brilliant so am gonna go for Smashbox's BB next as I have heard so much good stuff about it! So, if you want something in between tinted moisturizer and foundation BB is a good one to go for! :)

Try mineral foundations.
