why not wear a bronzer or tinted moisturizer (with the foundation) if you're looking for a tanned look? 

Nope.  If it breaks out my skin, I return it immediately!  And I usually use St. Tropez self-tanning mousse.  It gives a nice bronzey glow; but doesn't make you look fake or orange.
