Shampoo

I bought VO5 shampoo just to try something different and to save some money.  Bad choice, it made my hair look flat and greasy.  I don't know why i made that mistake.  My friend told me about Rusk shampoo and how it's affordable and works great.  I tried it since she has beautiful hair.  I love trying new product and i gotta say this one did not disappoint at all.  Good stuff!

Cheapish shampoo I heart

So I normally I don't like to spend more than $10 on my shampoo, but I definitely am picky because I've used stuff that is just awful.  So in my experimentation here are the suds that pass my tough test.

1) Giovanni's Organics: I've found this brand for around $8 bucks at CVS drug store and sometimes it's on sale too.

2) Trader Joe's Botanicals Shampoo.  I was in a bind once and I found this stuff to work pretty weel (and for just $ 4 or something like that).

3) Neutrogena Triple Moisture Shampoo:  I am a dry hair person so I always would go for this one in a bind.  $4.99

Good luck with your cheap shampoo search.  My favorite by far was the Giovanni's Organics. Though I recently read that the product was 100% organic so that is a little dissapointing.  Can't wait to hear what you discover.

Don't use MAC pro long lash mascara

I'm a MAC girl and always have been, so I figured their mascara would be just as good as their eye shadows and Strobe Liquid (which I absolutely love).

WRONG! Super dry and came out clumpy. I'm willing to try one of their mascaras again, but this one needs to be sent back to the drawing board.

Re: Shampoo

Hey Paige, that's too bad about the MAC mascara, we gave it a mediocre review too: http://www.totalbeauty.com/reviews/product/504909/mac-pro-longlash-mascara

Lately I've been obsessed with Smashbox Hyper Lash Mascara, it can clump a little but if you take the time to comb it out it gives you ridiculously long lashes -- I've had several people in the office compliment me and they've started wearing it too!

Alternative to MAC Pro Long Lash Mascara

Paige,

I have a recommendation too. If you're a fan of MAC, try Opulash -- I think it's the best mascara they've ever made. And I've tried pretty much all of them. Macara X is another fave, but gives a more natural look. I get a TON of compliments when I wear Opulash though -- bigger, longer, more lush lashes. But, if you're done with MAC, here are some of my other faves:

Mascara and cheap shampoo

Benefit makes a pretty awesome mascara, as does Bare Minerals with their "Buxom" line.  I think the Buxom is a bit less than the Benefit, and the results are stellar.

As for cheap shampoos, stay away from White Rain!  I had to use this in a pinch recently while traveling and my hair was so horribly dry afterwards.  I like the Organix line, and it's often buy one get one free at Rite Aid and CVS.  Two for six bucks is't bad, and every few months they offer a money back rebate, so you might be able to even give it a try for free.

Burt's Bees Shampoo and Conditioner

Smells lovely, priced right, cute branding, but it's woeful!

HARSH on your hair. Let me w/ a head full of straw. Never again!

Woof. That's not the first time I've heard that about Burt's Bees.

I love Aussie hair care products. Reasonally priced and smells great! I find the conditioner I use is more important than the shampoo.I would rather pay under a dollar for a bottle of Suave shampoo and splurge occasionally on an expensive conditioner.

If you're looking for a cheap-ish, but really good quality shampoo...  I'd suggest TreSumme.  It's only a couple of bucks and it comes in giant containers.

I actually do things like this for my blog.  I try "cheaper" brands in cosmetics, etc. and blog reviews about them.  I haven't done any for shampoo yet, but I'll take this as a suggestion to try something new on the market.  Check out my blog at http://tryitandbuyit.blogspot.com/.  Please suggest something you're curious about and I'll test it before you buy it.
