How to look cute at the Gym:

While most people make resolutions on New Year's Eve, I tend to make mine when school starts. Off go the kiddies and out the window go the bad habits I've cultivated over the summer -- or so I hope.

And, though some less-than-stellar behaviors I fell into during the last couple of months -- like being in the sun too often and eating the kids' leftover fries and ice cream -- organically fall to the wayside, others like skipping the gym altogether and not taking even 3 minutes to try and look decent need some conscious effort paid to them.

All this is just my long-winded way of saying that I'm going back to the gym/tennis court andgoing to attempt to look less like a troll while I'm there. Now, don't get me wrong, I have no patience with chicks that treat a trip to the treadmill like it's a beauty pageant (you know who you are), but there's nothing wrong with trying to look presentable while working up a sweat.

Here's what I plan to do:

Keep My Hair Under Control: I may no longer have a mop of long locks to tame in a braid, but this new Pixie can get more than a little poufy if left to its own devices. That's why I invested in a bunch of cloth headbands. (I like Goody No Slide Headbands, $6.99) They're comfy, keep my hair under control and, best of all, are washable.

Add Some Coverage (And Color) to My Face: While wearing foundation and powder can clog pores if worn while sweating, concealer (like MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer, $16.50, which also helps block the sun's harmful rays) and tinted moisturizer (try Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer,$42) won't. The concealer helps to cover up my blotchy complexion -- and stays put -- and the moisturizer works like a charm to even out my skin tone and add some color to my increasing pallor as summer wanes.

Keep My Eyes From Disappearing Altogether: I absolutely draw the line at donning a full-on, made up eye to smack tennis balls around or lift some dumb bells, but since I really don't want to look like a total zombie while doing it, I've made the concession to wear waterproof mascara. (Try Bare Escentuals Weather Everything Mascara, $15.) Just be sure to get one that is easily removed -- you don't want to have to yank your lashes from your lids after a workout as that kind of defeats the purpose here.

Maintain a Semblance of Moisture in My Lips: Working out, especially outside, tends to dry the heck out of my lips. I don't know whether it's the sun or that I lick them while concentrating on executing the moves correctly but, somehow they end up cracked and parched. I will not condone wearing lipstick to the gym, but a little balm (I am a certifiedCarmex Click Stick, $1.69, addict.) or, perhaps a very light pink gloss (try Too Faced Mirror Mirror Lip Gloss, $16) will pass muster.

That's it. A simple, 4-step mini-routine that will make getting back in fighting shape a little less grungy.

Interesting ideas

I think it's great to look good at the gym, but part of what I like about going to the gym is not having to worry about getting dolled up.  I do like the tip about mineral moisturizer and lip balm.  I definitely will do that.  Mascara...not so much Wink

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

Well I if I am in the mood I just put on a bit of mascara and don't worry about the rest.  I hate working out with foundation or anything else on as I feel it cloggs my skin up a bit.  I have a shower after my workout and just imagine all the toxins coming out of my body and washing away.

As for my hair- its short anyway so I just get a clip or headband to keep it out of my face.

In my opinion it is more what I am dressed in that makes me feel confident - the baggy t-shirt, unsupportive bra and old pair of pants make me feel absolutely frump city! My friend just started a clothing range of exercise gear for us girls.  One pair of good fitting pants and a secure top really makes a difference to me. I feel already fitter and feel pretty hot too!

Body shape gym clothes

So my friend launched her new range - its awesome!!! Check it out women's gym gear.  You can shop by body shape and she has a competition at the moment that if you sign up by end of october you can win $2000 worth of stuff.  I love her stuff- it's designed for women's body shapes so it fits well - even if ya not a bean pole. Let me know what you think...

I like to look cute all the time

I like looking cute all the time even when at the gym.  I like the more natural look and for that reason I make sure I make the right choices when I purchase makeup.  I've been using natural mineral makeup and I found the best prices at Beautystoponline.com.  The makeup brand is called stript and its Paraben-Free which means Vegan and I think that's pretty cool.  The makeup is great and feels good and natural on your skin.  Check out!

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

I totally agree about the waterproof mascara. ChapStick is also a MUST for me. Working out usually leaves me lips looking cracked and very unattractive... and there can be some pretty cute guys at the gym. Wink

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

I tend to work out after work and I'm usually in too much of a rush to wash everything off, so I guess I kind of am wearing makeup to the gym :) Usually all my foundation has faded by that point, so it's just whatever's left of my mascara and blush. I do like to add lip balm though, I hate chapped lips, but I don't really count that as makeup anyway unless it has tint to it.

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

I not a gym person, but I do go to yoga class which typically consists of a dark room and theoretically non-judgemental folks. If I go in the morning before work (rarely) or on a weekend, I won't wear makeup, but I might throw on some tinted lip gloss. However, if I'm going after work and already have makeup on, then I'll just leave my it on. So, no I don't make an effort to look cute when I workout, but I can see how someone might want to if they we're going to a brightly lit gym.

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

The last thing I think about before going to the gym is makeup (I think of how much my body is going to hurt tomorrow Smile ).  I was in a class the other week and the instructor got mad because a few ladies showed up late because they were putting on makeup in the locker room.  The trainer made them each count how many products that they had put on and made them do that many extra in each rep.  So a normal rep of ten was then turned into 15-25 for each of them.  Doing those extra just made them sweat off all of the makeup they had put on in the first place.

Haha, that is funny. Yea, I'd rather get to the workout on time rather than put on an extra coat of mascara. I get sweaty too so it will probably all come off anyway.

Re: How to look cute at the Gym:

I don't care about looking good at the gym.  LOL For one thing, I sweat my makeup off (I'm already wearing it from earlier in the day; I didn't put it on for the gym specifically)  Another, no one expects you to look good while exercising!Laughing

Also, I don't want to give any men around there one more reason to gawk or leer at me!Tongue out  I don't want to draw attention to myself by getting dolled up in cute workout clothes (like maybe skimpy or short things) & with sweatproof makeup.  Geez, even with the gray sweats I wear, I still have men bugging me.
