Why You Should Get a Gel Manicure
Originally this was just an option from OPI who took a few of their most popular color and created colorful gel similar to what they use for fake nails. This as applied with a paint brush and depending on who did it for you could look great or could look like you had three pounds of hot pink goop stuck to your hand. The paint brush way of applying separated the great nails ladies from the rookies because you really had to know what you were doing and for the most part, nobody did.
In a stroke of genius, OPI and other companies starting making the gel polish come in actual nail polish bottles so if you could paint nails you could handle this without making a mess. You still obviously want someone great doing this for you since it's an investment but the chances of success are much higher. The number of colors from all different companies (they're really all the same, just pick your favorite color) is ridiculous and the really good nail salons will know how to layer different colors to make something special for you.
Gel has gotten a bad reputation for ruining your nails but if you have it properly removed (preferably by a professional) it really does minimal damage and I found that my nails grew faster with it on. Aside from the obvious benefit of only having to get your nails done once very 2-3 weeks you don't have to wait for them to dry which is where most of my damage happens (ever notice how you ALWAYS have to pee right after having your nails painted?). Originally, my only beef was that the color would last so long my nails would be out of control long before I was ready to have it redone. Then I learned you can file them down a little bit if you have to and the color will still look great. < Previous Post Next Post >
