Why You Should Get a Gel Manicure

I have this theory that if I spend money on my nails, I'm less likely to bite/pick at them. This holds especially true when I use a bold color. Pale pink looks the same whether you chip it or not so that's useless. Painting my own nails isn't enough of a commitment and I'll usually end up with mental patience nails (aka severely bitten) within the day. Since I'm fairly consistent with my nail color choices and am accident prone the gel manicure is my dream situation. Does it cost more than a regular manicure? Definitely. Should you still get one? Absolutely.
Originally this was just an option from OPI who took a few of their most popular color and created colorful gel similar to what they use for fake nails. This as applied with a paint brush and depending on who did it for you could look great or could look like you had three pounds of hot pink goop stuck to your hand. The paint brush way of applying separated the great nails ladies from the rookies because you really had to know what you were doing and for the most part, nobody did.
In a stroke of genius, OPI and other companies starting making the gel polish come in actual nail polish bottles so if you could paint nails you could handle this without making a mess. You still obviously want someone great doing this for you since it's an investment but the chances of success are much higher.  The number of colors from all different companies (they're really all the same, just pick your favorite color) is ridiculous and the really good nail salons will know how to layer different colors to make something special for you.
Gel has gotten a bad reputation for ruining your nails but if you have it properly removed (preferably by a professional) it really does minimal damage and I found that my nails grew faster with it on. Aside from the obvious benefit of only having to get your nails done once very 2-3 weeks you don't have to wait for them to dry which is where most of my damage happens (ever notice how you ALWAYS have to pee right after having your nails painted?). Originally, my only beef was that the color would last so long my nails would be out of control long before I was ready to have it redone. Then I learned you can file them down a little bit if you have to and the color will still look great.

While gel nails are a more economically friendly alternative, the process is just as dangerous as going to a tanning bed. The best way to keep nails maintained is to go to the store and DIY!

I agree! When you have a vivid gel manicure, the last thing you want to do is ruin it. Gel manicures make my nails long and strong; I have no complaints. They are worth it!
