Negative vs Positive Reasons Women Wear Makeup
Women wear make up because they are insecure about their appearance.
Wearing makeup can reflect a sense of pride in oneself and one's appearance, health, sexuality and attractiveness to others.
Women wear makeup to imitate others, especially famous women, actresses, and models.
Positive: Wearing makeup demonstrates a certain poise and mental discipline, because a person who cares enough about her own appearance to put some effort into it is also probably willing to invest patience and effort in other phases of her life as well.
Negative: Women wear makeup because they are manipulated by the cosmetics industry and advertising.
Makeup indicates a social maturity and a willingness to conform with expectations. In the working world, these factors signal positive personal qualities, such as professionalism and a high work ethic to employers, coworkers and clients. The cosmetics industry helps women look classier, more professional, and more beautiful. A little blush, mascara , and lipstick can make all the difference. Then, one can take it one step further with foundation, concealer, eye shadow, blush, contouring, bronzer, and eyebrow enhancement. (added by Carole VonAllten)
Negative: Women wear makeup to please men and to conform to male expectations about sexuality and beauty.
Positive: To suggest that women use cosmetics purely to conform to the expectations of others is inaccurate. Adorning, soothing, and enhancing oneself physically can be a source of great personal satisfaction, not to mention a major diversion and stress reliever. Sometimes attending to one's appearance is an act of self-affirmation. As the famous L'Oreal television ads once said, "I'm worth it."
