Vitamins and Home Remedies for Acne Control

If there is one thing that just adds to the woes of angst-ridden teenagers, it’s an acne problem that won't go away. Pimples, blackheads and other skin problems can be quite embarrassing as they tend to flare up right on the face. Other problem areas are the back, shoulders and arms.

Characterized by bulbous skin lesions that occur under hair follicles and associated sebaceous glands which produce excess natural skin oils, acne predominantly affects teenagers but can also be a problem for older adults as well.

Treating acne can be a tricky process. It seems like there are countless products, ointments, secret recipes, tips and tricks flooding the market and internet promising acne-free skin. Well one of the reasons for this is that everyone's skin type is different and therefore what works for one person may not work as well for another. Choosing the right method for you can be difficult and something of a matter of trial and error.

For example, vitamin A fortified skin creams have been found to be a great topical treatment for skincare and effective in combatting acne. It is understood to work by improving how skin pores remove dead skin cells and thus lowering the chances of developing clogged pores that provoke surplus growth of the acne activating bacteria Propionibactium acnes.

Vitamin A skin creams have added benefits such as boosting collagen production, reducing sun damage and promotion of fuller, firmer skin that reduces wrinkles and other signs of skin aging.

Mint on the other hand has a natural anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. Many people have found relief by applying a concentrated mix of fresh mint juice over the face every night. Simply take a handful of mint and blend it in some water. You’re not going to drink it so don’t hold back on the amount of mint you use.

It might not sound appetizing but ingesting garlic has a good reputation for fighting of unsightly acne. If you can stomach it, eating a few cloves of raw garlic a day can show positive effects within a matter of days. If you prefer, you can get garlic supplement pills from a store but naturally they will take a longer time to show results. Since this is an inside-out approach, acne all over your body will benefit rather than just those areas where you apply a topical remedy.

The remedies above work by opening clogged pores, getting rid of bacteria from the surface of the skin or simply soothing inflamed areas. They may work for you or they may not. You won’t really know until you try. But if you find one that works for you, it’ll be cheaper and gentler on your skin in the long run.
