please help if you can.

ok. heres the problem. since i was 12, ive had pretty bad acne, nothing extreme, but enough to feel very conscious about it. since ive been 18, its calmed down alot but i still have clusters of tiny skin colored dots. from far away theyre hard to see, but in certain lighting, theyre are VERY noticable, especially in natural lighting. they are raised a tiny bit from my face so they arent flat. i am grateful i no longer have giant, violent bumps anymore, but this is getting annoying :/ ive tried almost everything.

i use a mild cleanser before bed and when i wake and then follow with an oil free moisturizer (neutrogena)

ive tried weird, at home remedies including ice, lemon juice, epsom salt, apple cider vinager (the list goes on)

i now use water based foundation (i refuse to go without foundation, but since i stopped using oil based foundations, the bumps have lessened. YAY!!!)

been to the dermatologist

.................................................any advice please? (sad face)

Definitely see a good and different dermatologist. It may not be acne, but something else.  I am an Esthetician student, and this is exactly what I am studying right now.  Don't assume it's acne.  There are other skin disorders out there with different treatment.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have the same problem on my face and arms. Some reffer to it as rosacea. I went to a dermatoligist, and they she said it is called Keratosis Pilaris, or KP. She gave me a cream called 40% CREAM. I hope this helps you!  http://images.medscape.com/pi/features/drugdirectory/octupdate/STS06251.jpg

What did the derms say? I'd go back and see what else they could do. I was a lot like you... tried home remedies, everything under the sun from drugstore to department store. Nothing worked. I had terrible cysts, and my skin was discolored and had raised and depressed scars starting to form. My physician had me try several RX's, but none of them worked. Eventually, I went to the derm at the age of 23 to get Accutane, and it made my skin totally clear for awhile. I still have acne, but it's managable now.

It's in a fair amount of exfoliating products, just check the ingredients. DDF, Peter Thomas Roth and Mario Badescu all have products with glycolic acid in them. L'Oreal also has a glycolic acid peel (it says it's for anti-aging but it would work for acne too).

how do i get ahold of glycolic acid?

While it's hard to say for certain, it sounds like you need to exfoliate your skin. Try a gentle scrub or chemical exfoliant (like salicylic or glycolic acid) once or twice a week and see if that helps.

I may be able to help, check out my blog on the inside out of skincare. Unfortunately, besides genetics what we eat plays a valuable role in our skins oil production. Our livers sometimes tend to hold bad fats or what I like to call "junk" fats because of the foods we eat or don't eat. Check out the blog when you have time there is very valuable information there and also look into a good probiotic.   Hope this helps.   Darkcocoa
