Deserving Mom Gets Glam With Help from The Academy a L'Oreal Program
Five lucky women were chosen by L'Oreal Paris to learn how to get glammed up for a big event -- through a special program they call The Academy. The day of the Golden Globes one of them got fabulous hair and makeup tutorials and transformations courtesy of makeup artist Collier Strong and hairstylist Johnny Levoy. I was lucky enough to get the scoop (and before and after photos!) of deserving mom, and one of the winners of The Academy program, Lisa Mahala.
Lisa's a military wife, her husband is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, mom of four children including a special needs child, and a science teacher. Despite her obviously hectic schedule, Lisa stays in fabulous shape -- thanks to jogging and rollerblading daily -- and still makes dinner for her family every night (I'm getting winded just from thinking about her day!).
Lisa is a huge fan of fashion and beauty, but because she's extremely busy she doesn't have a ton of time for herself (sound familiar?). That all changed for her over one special weekend. She was flown out to Beverly Hills, Calif. where the Golden Globes were taking place, to pamper herself and get gorgeous.
She picked up a ton of helpful hair and makeup tips see videos showing what she learned along with more about her story. And obviously got a glam transformation -- check out her before and after. What do you think?
Want to create a similar look? Here's how:
Step 1: Wash and condition your hair the night before you plan to wear an updo.
Step 2: Apply a hair smoothing serum or cream before blow drying hair (Lisa used L'Oreal Paris EverSleek Sulfate-Free Smoothing System Frizz Taming Cream Serum).
Step 3: The next morning, quickly curl all of your hair with a large iron to add texture.
Step 4: Create a side part and secure hair into a low side ponytail.
Step 5: Randomly bobby pin up sections of the tail to create an undone bun shape.
Step 6: Lock the style in place by spritzing it with hairspray. (She used L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray).
Step 1: Even out your skin tone with foundation and cover any blemishes or dark circles with concealer (she used L'Oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Powder Foundation and L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Concealer).
Step 2: Define your eyes by applying a vanilla or champagne colored shadow from lids to creases. Then blend a medium shadow shade (you can go for gray, blue brown, plum, you name it) into your creases and along the outer half of your upper and lower lashlines (she used L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Color Smokes Eye Shadow in Cobalt Smokes, which include blue and gray shades).
Step 3: Line your top lashlines with black liner. If you have big eyes, also line your inner rims.
Step 4: Apply multiple coats of black mascara to top and bottom lashes. (She used L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Black). Note: This mascara is a new fave of mine!
Step 5: Dust the apples of your cheeks with an apricot colored blush.
Step 6: Complete the red carpet-worthy look by slicking on a long-lasting red lipstick. (She used L'Oreal Paris Le Rouge Lipstick in Blazing Sangria.) Gorgeous!
