Long Hair After 40?

I just read an interesting article on Yahoo Shine that was in reference to a piece in the New York Times this past Sunday about women over 40 with long hair. Personally I'm 27 and I don't see a problem with it at all.  My beautiful mother is 60 and has had long hair for most of her life.  She always looks amazing. She's been pretty fortunate in that she went gray later in life but still, I've seen long gray manes that are beautiful too.

If it looks good I plan on having long hair for the rest of my days (unless I get brave one of these days and try out a pixie).  What do you guys think? Long hair after 40 yay or nay?

P.S. here is a photo of my lovely mama with her lovely long hair.

long hair can look great on anyone that has the confidence to do it and to wear it the right way. if hair is thin it gets stringy.... but your mom looks great! she has beautiful thick hair

Thanks so much for the sweet comments about my mom. I agree that whatever style makes you feel best is what you should wear.

You mama is beautiful so she can wear her hair in any way...  But I don't see the problem..I mean is a woman feels beautiful or if simply he likes long hair...why not?

I think it depends on the person. Your mom, for example, looks great with long hair, but I'm not sure that I can say that for all women over 40.

First of all - you and your mom have BEAUTIFUL hair in this picture. I know I've spent a great deal of time trying to grow out my own hair... between the split ends and constant trims, it is taking FOREVER. I don't think there should be an age where someone says, "Ok, I'm x years old, time to chop off my long hair." I think if you're fortunate enough to have that much hair (and it is well maintained) it shouldn't matter how old you are :)
