A Reader CHOPS OFF Her Hair
Recently one of our readers decided after reading 9 Haircuts to Try Before You Die, to take the plunge and finally cut her shoulder length hair down to less than an inch of her scalp. Brave lady. She sent me her dramatic before and after pictures and I begged her for her thoughts, feelings, and reactions to such a drastic hair makeover because I loved it so much. Here are the pictures and what she had to say about the experience:
"Firstly, I’ve always gone back and forth between shoulder length hair and chin length bobs. I was not new to relatively short hairdos. I was toying with the idea of doing something drastic with my hair when I read the TB “hairstyles to try before you die” article. I wanted something new that was edgy and sexy, but I also wanted something low maintenance. At the time however, I didn’t have a stylist I could trust and I didn’t know who could honestly tell me if a pixie cut would look decent on me. I’m Mediterranean so my hair is very thick with a slight wave and I don’t want a cut that will be reminiscent of a frumpy “mom cut” when I’m in my 20s. Having an honest professional opinion was the most important thing on my list. Fortunately, my coworker who also rocks an awesome short haircut told me her long-time stylist, Nikki at Sugar Hairsalon, was honest about styles, and could cut a mean pixie cut, so I made an appointment.
I never get nervous about a haircut, but this one did have me feeling like I might be making a mistake. I brought a picture to Nikki and she assured me that I have no reason to be nervous, and that short hair will look great on me. I trusted her, and she kept reassuring me throughout it all that my face shape, bone structure, and hair quality would make for a great haircut which was such a relief. After it was all chopped off, I was shocked, surprised, delighted… I felt very confident and excited about my short hair. For the next few days I’d catch myself off guard when I looked in the mirror and saw how drastically a haircut can change my image. I definitely felt sexy and a little bit more awesome. The haircut also changed how I looked at all of my style choices. I’m more excited to play around with different fashions and makeup. I feel like dramatic hair also calls for a more dramatic face and wardrobe. It’s also nice to have a great haircut that requires almost no maintenance aside from a little texturizing paste. It’s a real get-up and go kind of style.
I was initially nervous for the reaction I was to receive from my boyfriend. He was a little skeptical about how I would look with the new haircut, which was understandable. I’ve found that a lot of men prefer a girl with longer hair, but when I showed him he was in awe of how great it looked, and how sexy it was. He loves to run his fingers through it now. I knew my friends and co-workers would like it, but every time someone new sees it, they have to do a double take as most people don’t even recognize me! The hair cut has definitely been received positively and I’m excited to show it off."< Previous Post Next Post >
