Oscars 2014: All The Red Carpet Looks You Need To See

The year's awards season has been a Cinderella story in the making for Lupita Nyong'o, so it was only fitting that her Prada gown (which she helped design, naturally) was reminiscent of a Disney princess, from the fairytale pale blue to matching headband.   read more

How To Clip Your Nails In Space & More Gravity-Defying Astronaut Beauty Secrets

You'd have to be living under a rock to not hear the Oscar buzz surrounding Alfonso Cuarón's film "Gravity" and Sandra Bullock's performance in it. To really nail the role (which she totally did), Bullock turned to astronaut Catherine "Cady" Coleman, who spent 180 days in outer space. A retired US Air Force colonel and 21-year NASA veteran, Coleman e-mailed and chatted with Bullock while on her third space mission, where she served as a flight engineer aboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-20 spacecraft and spent 159 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as the lead robotics and science officer.   read more

9 Best Foundations for Dark Skin Tones

Fun fact: Back in the day, supermodel Iman toted her homemade foundations along to her fashion gigs for 14 years. Why? Makeup artists didn't have anything in their expansive kits to match her darker complexion. Fast-forward to the present and lines like L'Oréal and YSL have added darker shades to their signature products, but black women are still struggling to find the perfect match. Behind all of the "Caramel" and "Coffee" foundation tones, there's a basic lack of knowledge about dark skin tones. Many cosmetic companies only produce one or two dark shades with one or two undertones -- and this is one category where "one or two sizes fits all" doesn't work. At all.   read more

Buckle Up: Belts are Running the Red Carpet

The red carpet has range. From movie premieres to full-fledged galas, you see virtually every style, accessory and hair trend make an appearance. But once awards season gets rolling, things can get a bit more predictable: Heavy on the floor length gowns, blinding bling is the norm and we're given two or three daring looks that go down in red carpet hall of fame (see: Bjork's swan getup and Gwyneth's pink Ralph Lauren dress.) But in the midst of the all the haute couture and Louboutins, a dark horse of accessories has emerged as the latest trend: belts. No fancy capelets, daring thigh-high slits or weird hemlines, but an accessory everyone has in their closet.   read more

NYFW Front Row Look of the Day

Fashion Week ended on a pretty note with two of our favorite front-row looks yet. Actresses Lupita Nyong'o and Naomi Watts were side-by-side at Calvin Klein in pastel frocks with rose-colored lips that have us counting down the days until spring. Though both ensembles look relatively simple, we love the subtle styling touches that keep them interesting: Nyong'o's strappy lilac sandals and the piping on her dress, and Watts' edgy pompadour and shiny gold cuff.   read more

Are You Really Removing All of Your Makeup?

We all have our own, particular routine for removing makeup. I'm strictly a cotton ball and liquid remover type, my older sister only believes in makeup remover wipes and my college roommate would always resort to washing her entire face with a cleanser -- who's right? I asked Annet King, Director of Global Education at Dermalogica, to break down the removal process and, although it's not what my fellow lazy girls want to hear, it truly does take time and a combination of techniques to get your face squeaky clean before you go to sleep. Not convinced? The alternative should be enough to scare you straight.   read more

The New 'It' Ingredients for Treating Hyperpigmentation

Treating hyperpigmentation is tricky and often frustrating, so it's no surprise that Latinas cite hyperpigmentation as one of their top skin care concerns. Hyperpigmentation is caused by overproduction of the pigment melanin, and refers to any area of skin that's darker than surrounding skin. It can be caused by anything from a mosquito bite to hormonal fluctuations, says Miami-based Heather Woolery-Lloyd, M.D.   read more
